Description:A growing population and expanding economy are often welcome signs of community vitality. However, rapid growth can strain increasingly limited natural resources like water if that growth is not matched by thoughtful planning initiatives. Better integration of water and land use planning is critically important for long-term water sustainability in Colorado. Improved integration can enhance the consistency between a local government's community development goals and the use of its water supplies. Several Colorado communities have already recognized the benefits of and taken steps to increase water and land use planning integration.
